Dear Middle School Families,
It’s great to be in the third week of school already. There is a positive energy in the hallways this fall. Even the morning car line seems to be flowing better this year.
A few updates / reminders for the month of September:
- Speaking of car line, here are a few overnight trip Drop-Off reminders. The Grade 8 trip departs from Umpleby, so please drop students off in the left car lane (Umpleby side) in the morning. For all families, please have the kids set up in the car so that they can unload quickly. Buses are slated to roll as close to 8:15 as possible, so it is the one day to be a bit early.
- You should have heard all of the details on the overnight trip from your grade level dean. If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to them. We’re excited to have these important experiences again this year.
- We highly recommend that families with COVID home tests give their student a test the day before the overnight trip departs. Students who are sick should not be going on the overnight trips, even if they do not have COVID.
- If you have to pick your student up early or know that your student will be missing school, be sure to email msattendance@d-e.org. Students who know in advance they are going to miss a day of school will complete a planned absence form. This helps them stay on top of their missed class work.
- The COOP will be opening soon. What’s the COOP? Well, it is a snack bar on campus that is open to MS students after school. And, it should be noted, that they have chocolate chip cookies that most students can’t resist. The COOP is a good opportunity to talk with your students about budgeting, as buying your friends snacks adds up.
- The goal this year is to build community in big and small ways. This is important not just for students but parents as well. An opportunity to meet new folks and reconnect with ones you haven’t seen for a while is the Middle School car line coffee. Our first coffee of the year is Tuesday, October 18th. If you pass through car line, pull into Umpleby lot, grab a cup (or two) of coffee / tea, and say hello.
- The Middle School Photo Day is Friday, September 30. This is a new date. For a Photo Day (Pictures) Order Form (PDF) please click here. These are the photos that end up in the yearbook at the end of the school year, so there’s still time to get that haircut!
- For Grade 8 families, there is a spring break trip to Ecuador being offered through the School’s D-E 360° program. Mr. Egan will be running an informational meeting before Back to School Night. The event is October 6 at 6:00 PM in Room 316 (third floor of the MS). Please attend to learn more about this extra 8th grade opportunity. The photo is from a previous year’s trip.
