Message from Jonathan Davis, MS Principal

Dear Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Families,

I hope your summer is off to a good start and that your family is safe and healthy.

I’ll be writing at a greater length as part of our summer mailing that will come out in early August, but I wanted to touch base with you at the tail end of the 2019-2020 school year.

First, I want to remind all of you that the summer reading lists are up on our Middle School website page: click here or go to www.d-e.org/middle. You will find valuable information on this part of the school’s site in preparation for the coming school year.

Secondly, every currently enrolled student who is moving up to the next Middle School grade level has a summer assignment on ALEKS, the online math program.  Each teacher has already reached out directly to students and families, but I wanted to give a second reminder.

The school is deep into the planning for the coming school year.  Dr. De Jarnett will be writing to the Dwight-Englewood community in the coming weeks with the detailed plan for the start of school in September.  We are committed to beginning school in the safest and most effective way possible.  Teachers are spending this summer preparing to roll out a robust and engaging program for the students this fall that blends best practices with lessons that we learned over the last several months of the school year.

Along with this letter is a note from Dr. Mirangela Buggs, the Director of Equity and Diversity Engagement at Dwight-Englewood.  Starting with the tragic death of George Floyd in late May, this country has been challenged to face multiple issues around history and race.  We will be discussing this extensively with the students this fall, and she provides some resources for you to explore with your students this summer.

I’m already looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

Regards,

Jonathan
