Message from Jonathan Davis, MS Principal

Dear Middle School Families,

Today’s issue provides you with an important update that later this afternoon, Friday, Nov. 15, you will have access to your student’s interim comments report for the fall semester.  These comments summarize the hard work and productivity, and also include coaching comments so that Middle School students can continue to grow and improve.  You access the comments through the D-E website.  Please see the instructions listed below.

This is the first of seven (7) formal Middle School family communications designed to provide information about your student as a learner and a person.  Next, you will get the mid-semester grade report that will give you a snapshot of where your student is heading into Thanksgiving Break.

The Middle School teachers have put great thought into the comments.  The comments are written with the students as the intended audience.  As you read the comments, I encourage you to remember the school philosophy of “progress over product.”  This is the initial report, and we are expecting each student to grow significantly over the course of the year.  Engage your student in a conversation about the comments and get her/his perspective on them.  Help develop an action plan to reach goals over the course of the year.  This is the process of learning and growth, and we in the Middle School value the parent partnership in helping each student make progress.

Thank you for taking a moment to review the additional updates below, including a call for donations to this year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive, which your student(s) will hear about in HomeBase and Morning Meetings.

Regards,

Jonathan
