Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. It’s a pleasure to see students back on campus and engaging in classes with such energy — they seem to have hit the ground running in 2023. Here are a few upcoming happenings I thought it might be helpful to highlight:
- Starting now — students can submit ideas to me for new spring clubs. I will get them started on the process for getting new clubs approved and launched. –
- Now until 1/18 — lost-and-found clothing, etc. is on display on the first floor “front porch”. We’ve made announcements to students to look for their things, but you might want to as well if you happen to be on campus. On the 18th it will all go to the Bergen Family Center along with used coats and new socks from our coat drive (which is also going on right now in the boxes on the front porch).
- 1/16 — MLK day of service celebration in the morning; no regular classes. You already should have received an e-mail announcement from the Office of Engagement with details.
- 1/26 — Winter Choral concert in the evening. Mr. Lloyd recently sent an e-mail to all students in participating classes.
- 1/17 — MESH/Art interdisciplinary unit kick off. Look for an email from Mr. Larrowe, MESH team leader, with more information.
- 1/23 — informational Health units begin this week in your child’s Health & Wellness classes. Look for an e-mail from your child’s H&W teacher for more information on topics covered in the Health unit. If you have questions, contact your child’s teacher or department chair, Mrs. Carstens-Potts.
- 2/7 (snow date 2/9) — you are invited to the culminating event of the interdisciplinary unit. This is a potluck food festival coordinated by our wonderful PA reps. (We hope you will contribute a taste of a room-temperature finger food that is special to your family or related to your family history or cultural heritage). Look for an email from our PA reps with more details. Thank you, Nisha, Miriam and Angie!
- 3/2 — first day of spring clubs and sports try-outs. Students were sent an email from Associate Athletic Director, Mr. Agramonte, with an opportunity to fill out a survey expressing interest in a spring sport. If your child did not sign up through that survey, it is not too late, but s/he should make sure to listen for announcements and check the weekly athletic calendar so as not to miss the first days of tryouts. Your child also will receive an e-mail sign up googleform from Mr. Davis (as they did for the winter term) the week prior to new clubs starting. Some of these events are also listed on the password-protected school calendar accessible through your portal on the DE website, for your future reference.
All the best,
Tasha Urbanowski
