01/13/23 A Message from Jonathan Davis

Dear Middle School Families,

I hope your 2023 is off to a great start. It’s been energizing having the students on campus the past eight school days.

There are a few important reminders for everyone before we get too far into the new year:

*Monday is the school celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Day of Remembrance and Service program begins at 9:00am with a breakfast and a keynote by immigration lawyer Mr. Allen Orr Jr. followed by a selection of service learning opportunities. The slogan is “Make it a Day On, and not a Day Off!” Please do join us for this wonderful program. Click here to RSVP and learn more.

*The Middle School is holding a winter coat and socks drive from now until January 26. We are accepting gently used winter coats of all sizes, so it is a good time to clean out the closets of items that students may have outgrown or that you are tired of wearing. Socks must be brand new to donate. Please participate if you are able.

*The second semester begins January 23. Sixth graders get check sheets about habits and skills, while seventh and eighth graders receive traditional grades. The students will preview their information in advisory on 1/26, while parents will gain access to them on Friday, 1/27.

*Ms. Traub’s eighth grade advisory took on the task of gathering and organizing the lost and found from around the Middle School.  We have several jackets and water bottles organized for students to see on the first floor. If your student is missing something, please have them double check the display of items. Things will be up until Wednesday, 1/18.

*Although there is no day off this year because it falls on a Sunday, the school recognizes Lunar New Year as one of our major holidays.  So, there will be no assessments or homework due on the 23rd to allow families to observe the day without school pressures.

While it is January, it sure is warm today. I’ve assured the students that when the snow comes we will have a snow day if the conditions call for it.

See you around campus!

Regards,
Jonathan
