GREEK DAY!

Please read the letter below from Mr. Fleisher — it includes an invitation and a request:

Dear 6 th Grade Parents,

As a culmination to our studies of ancient cultures, the 6 th grade will compete in a variation of the Greek Olympics.  On June 8th between 8:30 and 10:30am, the city-states of Athens, Sparta, Thebes, and Delphi will participate in a series of events including: foot races, a discus throw, and feats of strength.  In addition, there will be a showcase of pottery that the students will make in class, as well as a Greek trivia contest.  Parents are invited to attend the festivities on Graham Field.  We will have our Awards Ceremony and Greek Feast immediately following!

In the days leading up to the Olympics, each social studies class will research a particular city-state they will be assigned and prepare for the competition.  Students will use class time to make not only the pottery for the showcase, but also appropriate ancient Greek attire and the chariots they will race at the Olympics.   In order to be prepared for this day, every student will need to bring the following materials by Monday May 23, 2016. You can bring these items earlier if you wish, and we will store them in the class room.

  • A SINGLE sheet of 20”x30”foam board (this will be used to create their chariot*)
  • Make sure you label your stuff!!!

At the end of the day a Greek feast will be shared by all. Click here to sign up to bring food (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f49a9a723a6fb6-greek)
